  • Your teeth may stay numb for 1-2 hours but your face, lips and tongue may feel numb for up to 3-5 hours.

  • Do not chew on this side until the anesthetic wears off

  • Do not play with the area as you are likely to bite or chew on the area

  • Be very careful of hot liquids/drinks as you may burn yourself because of the inability to gauge the temperatures

  • As it is wearing off, you may feel some pins & needles sensations for a short time before everything returns to normal

  • Once all the anesthetic has worn off & you feel normal, check your bite. If it feels that any of your teeth are hitting out of sync, please call the office & let us know – this is not something that self corrects.

After Scaling & Replaning (or Deep Cleanings)

  • Warm salt water rinses are going to help the tissue calm down the quickest. Use ½ teaspoon of salt in 8 oz. warm water. Swish keeping in mouth for at least 30 seconds then spit. Do Not Swallow

  • Keep area clean. If area is tender to brushing, run your tooth brush under warm water to soften the bristles.
