Snoring & Sleep Apnea Services
Living with snoring and sleep apnea can be tough.
SLEEP DENTISTRY CAN RELIEVE YOUR SYMPTOMS.
If you snore, it not only leads to problems for your own health. When a partner snores loudly, preventing the other person from sleeping well, it can also cause difficulty in relationships. In some cases, snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea. However, not all snorers have sleep apnea, and still others can have sleep apnea without a snoring problem.
Dr. Lisa Spier is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and offers a range of snoring and sleep apnea treatments. At Dental Care Associates of Buffalo, we work collaboratively with your sleep physician to improve your overall health through better sleep quality and treatment of underlying sleep issues.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
HOW IT AFFECTS YOUR OVERALL HEALTH
Obstructive sleep apnea is a common disorder in both adults and children that causes patients to breathe irregularly during sleep. They start and stop breathing intermittently because of an issue with their throat muscles and airways. The muscles relax and occasionally block the airway, which causes normal breathing to stop. Loud loud snoring is a well-known symptom of obstructive sleep apnea. Your partner may even observe that you stop breathing from time to time. Waking up with a gasp, a dry mouth, and a sore throat are other signs that often point to obstructive sleep apnea.
Untreated obstructive sleep apnea can affect your long-term health. Among other things, you may feel tired when you wake up, regardless of how long you slept. This chronic fatigue affects your energy levels and mood throughout the day, and it can be difficult to concentrate or focus on everyday responsibilities, such as work or school.
Other more serious problems, such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular issues, can occur as a result of obstructive sleep apnea.
Fixing Sleep Apnea
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH THE TREATMENT PROCESS
If you have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, our team will work collaboratively with your sleep physician to design the best course of treatment for you. As part of our commitment to care at Dental Care Associates of Buffalo, we offer a free consultation to chat about your sleep apnea treatment options and assist with oral appliances. These are customized to ensure comfort and optimal fit and can help to reduce snoring and breathing problems caused by obstructive sleep apnea.
Please note, Dental Care Associates of Buffalo will not commence any treatment until you have seen a professional sleep physician. Once a qualified sleep specialist performs a full evaluation and you are diagnosed with a sleep issue, we can proceed with an appropriate treatment plan.
